Phase-Wise Safety Assessment

Ensuring Safety Through Every Stage of Development

At Amoli CDMO, safety is not an afterthought — it’s an essential part of every development and manufacturing phase.

Our phase-wise safety assessment framework ensures that each molecule, process, and operation is evaluated, controlled, and verified to meet the highest global standards of product safety, employee protection, and environmental compliance.

By integrating scientific evaluation, engineering controls, and regulatory principles, Amoli ensures safe scale-up from laboratory to commercial production — protecting people, products, and the planet.

1. Laboratory Phase – Risk Identification

During the early research and development phase, our safety assessments focus on hazard identification and process understanding.

Key Activities:

  • Preliminary chemical risk assessment based on molecular structure and reactivity
  • Identification of potential toxic, reactive, or flammable hazards
  • Screening for genotoxic, mutagenic, or sensitizing compounds
  • Evaluation of thermal stability using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and reaction calorimetry
  • Risk categorization according to GHS and COSHH standards

Our scientists collaborate with process safety engineers to incorporate inherent safety principles into process design from the earliest stages.

2. Process Development Phase – Risk Mitigation & Control Strategy

As development progresses, we conduct detailed risk assessments to ensure that potential hazards are mitigated before pilot trials begin.

Activities include:

  • Reaction hazard analysis (heat release, gas evolution, exotherm potential)
  • Compatibility studies for solvents, reagents, and intermediates
  • Establishment of critical process parameters (CPPs) and safe operating ranges
  • Assessment of containment levels for potent or hazardous materials
  • Implementation of engineering controls such as venting, inerting, and temperature control systems

Amoli’s Process Safety Laboratory uses quantitative analytical data to design safe and efficient scale-up protocols, ensuring both process integrity and operator safety.

3. Pilot Plant Phase – Validation and Verification

In the pilot phase, process safety assessments are validated under simulated production conditions.

Our goal is to verify that the risk controls established during development are effective at larger scales.

Focus Areas:

  • Verification of reaction kinetics and heat transfer rates at scale
  • HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies for pilot operations
  • Process simulation and failure mode analysis (FMEA)
  • Validation of safety interlocks, alarms, and emergency systems
  • Safe handling procedures for energetic, volatile, or exothermic reactions

Our pilot facilities are designed with identically equipped manufacturing blocks, ensuring consistency and safety alignment with commercial units.

4. Commercial Manufacturing Phase – Operational Safety and Compliance

At the manufacturing stage, Amoli’s emphasis shifts to operational safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Key Initiatives:

  • Implementation of cGMP-compliant safety systems and real-time monitoring
  • Periodic HAZOP and risk re-assessment for all ongoing processes
  • Occupational Exposure Banding (OEB) and containment verification for high-potency materials
  • Environmental safety monitoring (emissions, effluents, waste management)
  • Emergency preparedness programs and operator safety training

All safety programs are aligned with global EHS standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001) and comply with the requirements of regulatory bodies such as USFDA, EDQM, PMDA, ANVISA

5. Lifecycle & Continuous Improvement

Safety at Amoli doesn’t end after commercialization. We continuously evaluate and upgrade safety practices through:

  • Periodic safety audits and process revalidations
  • Incident investigation and CAPA implementation
  • Integration of real-time process data for predictive safety modeling
  • Adoption of green chemistry principles and sustainable manufacturing practices

Our proactive, data-driven safety culture ensures long-term reliability, compliance, and environmental stewardship.
